Lions make 3 roster cuts, trim 2 TEs

Prior to the deadline for roster reductions on Tuesday, the Detroit Lions made several roster changes.

For this week's joint workouts or preseason game with the Colts in Indianapolis, three players who are no longer on the team will not be making the trip.

The Lions released veteran tight end Garrett Griffin along with TE Nolan Givan and OL Ryan McCollum.

Unlike McCollum, who is in his second season in Detroit, Givan is an undrafted rookie.

While Griffin, a vested veteran, is free to sign with any team as a free agency immediately, the other players are susceptible to waiver claims.

After seeing the first three weeks of training camp and the opening preseason game, none of the moves are shocking.

To reach the 85-man maximum, the Lions must make two more changes by Tuesday at 4 p.m. 87 people are on the roster right now.
