First Podcast of Meghan Markle’s Premieres on Spotify
In “Archetypes,” Meghan Markle’s first show for Spotify, which deconstructs the evolution of cultural prejudices about women, debuted Tuesday.
The first hour of “Archetypes” involves a discussion between Markle and Dr. Laura Cray, a professor at UC Berkeley and an authority on gender in the workplace, as well as Serena Williams, who just announced her intention to retire from professional tennis. Weekly episodes of the Duchess of Sussex’s podcast
Weekly episodes of the Duchess of Sussex’s podcast are only accessible globally on Spotify. In accordance with an exclusive agreement signed in December 2020 between Spotify and Markle and Prince Harry’s Archewell Audio, the first season of “Archetypes” will premiere on the streaming service.
In the show, Markle will engage in “uncensored talks” with academics and historians to learn more about the history of gender stereotypes and how they influence cultural narratives.

According to Markle in the series teaser, “Archetypes” will examine “how we talk about women: the words that raise our girls, and how the media reflects women back to us.” “However, whence do these stereotypes originate? And how do they continue to play a role in determining our lives?
By joining forces with Spotify, Archewell Audio declared its commitment to “creating content that uplifts and entertains people throughout the world, spotlights varied viewpoints and voices, and develops community via shared experience, storylines, and ideals.” It had only created one podcast on Spotify before “Archetypes”: an audio special for the 2020 Christmas season.
Markle and Prince Harry Voice
Markle and Prince Harry voiced their concerns to Spotify earlier this year for COVID misinformation on the service (during a broader uproar over vaccination misinformation on “The Joe Rogan Experience”). The couple left their meeting with corporate executives feeling certain that Spotify was sufficiently addressing the false information.
Gimlet Media and Spotify’s Archewell Audio collaborate to develop “Archetypes.” Together with Catherine Cyr and Terry Wood, Markle serves as executive producer. Executive producers for Archewell Audio are Ben Browning and Rebecca Sananes. The executive producers of Spotify Studio are Dawn Ostroff, Julie McNamara, and Courney Reimer.
Along with the partnership with Spotify, Archewell Productions also has a contract with Netflix that is exclusive.
