Students Admissions Academic Standards
Academic Standards

Academic Standards:

The goal of Nauvoo University is to become a small liberal arts college adhering to LDS standards.  We welcome students who desire to make both academic and spiritual progress.  The Admissions Office carefully considers High School transcripts and ACT/SAT test scores.  They also consider portfolios and other evidence of preparation for college.  Students can apply online at NauvooUniversity.com.

Transcripts:

If you already have 24 or more college credits, you need to send the Admissions Office transcripts for each college you have attended.  If you have fewer that 24 college credits you need to send your high school transcripts.  If you have been home schooled you need to send a portfolio or other evidence of your preparation for college.

Test Scores:

For admission you need to take the ACT or SAT test and have the results sent to the Admission Office.  If you have taken these tests more than once you need only send the highest score.  If your test score is on your high school transcript you do not need to send the results separately.  If find out how to take these tests go to the ACT or SAT web page on the Internet.  To have your results sent to Nauvoo University go to College Board (SAT) or ACT Student (ACT) and request that your scores be sent to us. The address of the Admissions Office for transcripts and for test scores is:  Admissions Office,  Nauvoo University,  Box 22, Nauvoo Illinois  62354.

Why Homeschoolers come to Nauvoo University:

Homeschoolers come to Nauvoo University because classes are small and they receive individual attention.  They want to grow both academically and spiritually.  The education offered is of high quality and very affordable.  Perhaps the most important reason is that Nauvoo University provides a wholesome social environment to make lasting friendships.  Please remember that the Admissions Office will consider not only your ACT/SAT scores, but also review portfolios and other evidence of your preparation for college.

Why Return Missionaries come to Nauvoo University:

Returned missionaries who come to Nauvoo University find that they are not only challenged academically but they can also continue their spiritual growth near the Nauvoo Temple and in a city where many Gospel truths were restored.  They find that the Returned Missionary scholarship of $1,000 covers 20% of their tuition.  They also find many opportunities to help fellow students and others in the area with a better understanding of the Gospel.  Returned missionaries may also be able to assist with the Foreign Language program.

Why Prospective Missionaries come to Nauvoo University:

Nauvoo University provides a wholesome environment that is conducive to preparation for a mission.  Prospective missionaries find that the Young Singles Adult program, the Institute classes, the Nauvoo History class, and Temple attendance are good preparation for their missions.  They make lasting friendships and find positive support from the faculty and their fellow students.  They even enjoy their turn at cooking dinner and their other domestic responsibilities.  But Nauvoo University is not just a good place for mission preparation.  Students also make solid academic progress that puts them further ahead in their academic efforts when they return.

International Students:

We do not yet have an International Program nor are we able to assist in obtaining student visas.  However, if foreign students can get to Nauvoo, we would be pleased to have them take our classes.  Of course, appropriate TOEFL requirements would need to be met.
