J. Phil Harrop

J. Phil Harrop holds a BS cum laude from Brigham Young University. He has an MBA and an MHA from The Ohio State University’s Fisher College of Business and College of Medicine, respectively. During the 1990s he served a mission in the Russia Novosibirsk Mission and was a Russian Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellow at Ohio State. He is the former Director of the Center for Cancer Care in Goshen, Indiana and is the current Executive Director of the John Stoddard Cancer Center in Des Moines, Iowa. Harrop serves on the boards of directors for the American Red Cross Central Iowa Chapter, the American Cancer Society Midwest Division, and the John Stoddard Cancer Center. He is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives. He and his wife, Heidi, serve as Chairs for the BYU Alumni Chapter in Des Moines. Harrop has served in the Church in a variety of callings; he is currently a Primary teacher in the Waukee Ward in Iowa. While serving as Bishop of the Elkhart 1st Ward in Indiana Harrop accompanied a youth group to Nauvoo and has had a growing fascination with Nauvoo ever since. Living in the Midwest provides him the opportunity to visit the historic city often, getting to know it more and more each time. He also has a keen interest in education, both formal and informal.
